Dani Ceballos: I never played for Real Madrid as I am for Arsenal

Dani Ceballos admits he needs to sharpen up to succeed with Arsenal.

To play behind Nicolas Pepe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, Ceballos might need a discipline that he has sometimes struggled to find. His appraisal of his own style is brutally honest.

“There are coaches that like it and coaches that don’t,” he told the Daily Mail. “I know I need to be able to identify the moments in a game when it’s right to be the player who does something different and the moments when I have to be the player who holds his position.

“I try to get at the opposition and make the difference. It is true though that sometimes the desire to be near the ball gets the better of me and I can lose my position. But I am young and I can improve.

“I have to be self-critical.

“The two good games that I have played so far for Arsenal, I never played that well in two years at Real Madrid.”

How Zidane blocked Mourinho from taking Real Madrid star

Jose Mourinho was keen to make Real Madrid defender, Raphael Varane, his first signing following his appointment as Manchester United manager.
But he was thwarted by Real manager Zinedine Zidane, who persuaded the player to stay, Diario AS reports.
Mourinho had identified United’s back line as an area of weakness, when he took over at Old Trafford in the summer of 2016.
And having managed Varane at the Bernabeu, Mourinho made signing him a priority.
However, Zidane persuaded Varane to remain in Spain.
Varane has since established himself as one of the best defenders in the world, not only helping Real to win the Champions League in 2017 and 2018, but France lift the World Cup in 2018.
